On Pressing Pause and Other Exciting Opportunities

I've been honored to help support new and growing families over the past 3 years. It has been an amazing journey, and I've been grateful to get to know so many of you. Thank you for allowing me to join you during this special and sacred time in your family's life.

As part of this journey, I've felt a calling to do more, to go beyond the typical postpartum period, to support families as parents return to work following birth and parental leave. For many parents, it's a tough transition, and I think we need to do more to help support parents during this time.

I believe businesses have a vested interest in and - dare I say - a responsibility to provide support to their employees as they transform into working parents. Employees feel supported. Companies retain talent. Win-win.

I believe workplace-based communities are a vital piece of the support network. We say sometimes it takes a village to raise a child. What we really mean is sometimes it takes a village to be a parent. Imagine how authentic and productive our workplaces could be when we bring our whole selves and not just wear our work hats all day.

I believe expectant parents stand to gain a lot - confidence, strength, resilience - when they plan ahead. Whether it's pen and paper, making a detailed plan or it's high-level discussions with partners/family/friends, putting strategies and tools in place ahead of time helps secure the foundation. And that foundation is incredibly important as parents face the return to work.

As many of you know, I've partnered with the amazing Amanda Hemm to launch Soutiens. It's our take on supporting expectant and working parents in the workplace, and I couldn't be more proud and excited about the work we're doing with individuals and companies. I hope you'll come to check us out and join in the conversation.

It is with a strange mix of sadness, reluctance, gratitude, and excitement that I announce I won't be taking any additional postpartum clients for 2019. There are so many wonderful prenatal & postpartum professionals in our area, so if you're in need of local recommendations, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm happy to help connect you. For starters, check out the amazing providers at NAMMA Families. They're my go-to tribe.

Soutiens is going places, and I'm looking forward to the next journey. Thank you for being a supporter of First Days Postpartum Care. I am truly humbled and will be forever grateful. ️
